A super slimmer is proving to be a winner at the losing game after shedding five stone 1lb and being named Slimming World Loughrea's ‘Greatest Loser’ 2018.

Linda had always struggled with her weight, but since discovering Slimming World and shedding an amazing six stone, she has found a new lease of life.

“Losing 12 stone, 9lbs has changed my life,” says the Athlone Springs group’s Deirdre Sheerin, who was named Slimming World’s ‘Woman of the Year’ 2017 for the group.

Super slimmers in Mayo have lost a whopping 54013.25lbs (that’s 3858 stone or 24.5 tons) in weight – that’s the equivalent of 18 cars. Altogether the members of the Ballina, Ballinrobe, Ballyhaunis, Castlebar, Claremorris, Westport, and Swinford Slimming World groups are now 54013lbs lighter than they were at the beginning of 2016.

Deirdre Sheerin worked as a young Garda stationed in Longford, Moate, and Mullingar. Tragedy struck in 2009 when she was involved in a car accident, sustaining serious injuries which severely damaged her back. After the incident her mobility was greatly reduced and she has lived with severe pain every day since. She also had to use a wheelchair to get about, meaning she led a more sedentary lifestyle; she can walk, but very slowly. Much to Deirdre’s dismay, her weight began to pile on and eventually she went up to a size 26.
